Cal State Fullerton has introduced program alum Christina Washington as the program’s interim pitching coach. Washington fills the role usually held by Dallas Escobedo, who is taking a leave of absenceĀ to play professionally overseas.
Escobedo has signed a contract to play professionally for the Shokki team in Nagoya, Japan, and will spend three months overseas for the portion of the Japanese professional season from April 14 through May 28. Escobedo, who is in her second season as the Titans pitching coach, will return to her coaching duties upon her return to the US.
In addition to her coaching duties with the Titans and the professional opportunity in Japan, Escobedo is a member of the Scrap Yard Fastpitch independent professional team out of Houston, Texas, and also is a part of the Mexican national team. During her collegiate career at Arizona State, Escobedo earned a trio of all-American awards.
Washington played for the Titans for three seasons, from 2013-16, before transferring to Boise State for her senior season. During her career in Fullerton, the southpaw posted a 31-12 overall record and a 3.79 ERA in more than 300 innings of work across eighty-seven appearances. Washington earned a mention to the Big West’s All-Freshman team after her inaugural season.
Head coach Kelly Ford, in a program statement, said, “We are so grateful to our administration for working with our unique situation. They have been completely supportive of Dallas’s opportunities as a pro player and quest for a gold medal.”
