TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Legendary coach Carol Hutchins has been elected to the Michigan State Hall of Fame, the school announced on Monday.
Hutchins was a dual-sport athlete for the Spartans from 1976-79. Playing both softball and basketball, she helped lead the MSU softball team to an AIAW national championship as a freshman starting shortstop in 1976. The AIAW was the standard-bearer before the NCAA adopted women’s sports championships.
A native of Lansing, Hutchins is already immortalized in the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame, NFCA Hall of Fame, and Michigan Athletics Hall of Fame and will now add a plaque in her alma mater’s Hall to her list of accolades.
Now the NCAA’s Division 1 active wins leader with almost 1,700 career wins as a head coach, Hutchins has led the Michigan Wolverines to twenty-two Big Ten titles, 12 Women’s College World Series appearances, and the 2005 National Championship.
The eight-member Class of 2021 will be officially inducted into the Michigan State Hall of Fame on September 24th. The group will also be recognized at the Spartans’ football game against Nebraska a day later.
