Softball legend Cat Osterman is stepping away from her assistant coaching role at Texas State, according to an announcement by the school on Monday morning.
After being selected to the 2020 US Olympic team, Osterman took a leave of absence from Texas State for the 2020 season. The Tokyo Olympics have since been postponed to 2021, and the Team USA roster will remain the same without for the Games. Osterman’s departure from Texas State was noted as being “to pursue future personal endeavors.”
Osterman spent six years on staff with the Bobcats, working with the program’s pitching staff and playing an instrumental role in tutoring All-American pitcher Randi Rupp during her stellar career in San Marcos. During her tenure with the program, Osterman guided the team’s pitchers to a collective 2.45 ERA in more than 2,000 innings of work; she also played a role in the team reaching the NCAA regional round in three consecutive seasons, from 2016-18.
During Osterman’s leave of absence for the 2020 season, former volunteer assistant coach Paige McDuffee took over leadership of the Bobcats’ pitching staff. The squad posted a 1.59 cumulative ERA and a .227 opponent’s batting average in nearly 160 innings of work.
