Cal State Fullerton has added Charlotte Morgan to their coaching staff, the school announced on Tuesday.
Morgan will serve as a volunteer assistant coach, and will work with the Titans’ pitching staff. A native of Moreno Valley, California, the position is Morgan’s first in the collegiate ranks since a 2-year stint on staff at UT-Arlington that ended following the 2019 campaign.
“I am so excited and blessed for the opportunity to coach at Cal State Fullerton,” Morgan said in a school release. “I have to thank Kelly Ford for giving me the opportunity and ready to start help take the Titans back to the World Series. To be able to coach back in my home state has been a dream of mine and can’t wait to get started.”
In 2018, Morgan helped guide the UTA pitching staff to a 3.44 ERA and .277 opponent’s batting average in nearly 400 innings pitched. The following year, the team’s ERA improved slightly to a 3.42 mark as the Mavericks won the 2019 National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament title.
“Landing Coach Morgan is like landing The Gatorade Player of the Year in recruiting terms,” Titans head coach Kelly Ford said in the school release. “Her playing experience demands respect from our players, her insight already has been program changing and I always want to recruit personalities that are a fit with our coaching staff and we knocked it out of the park with that. I could go on and on and on but to say the least I am fired up that Coach Morgan is a Titan.”
Prior to UT-Arlington, Morgan’s collegiate coaching resume included multi-year stints at Maryland; Georgia Tech; and Oklahoma State. She also spent time at ESPN as a game and studio analyst, and was the head coach of the Akron Racers and Cleveland Comets of the National Pro Fastpitch league in 2017 and ’18.
Cal State Fullerton finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 14-10 overall record. The team’s pitching staff ended the year with a 3.34 cumulative ERA, and 124 strikeouts in 169.2 innings of work in the circle.
