Charleston Southern has named Christi Musser as the program’s new head coach.
Musser spent the last six years on staff at Grand Canyon, most recently serving as the program’s associate head coach. She was the Lopes’ hitting coach, and guided the offense to a top-15 national ranking in total offense from 2016-18.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be a named the head softball coach at Charleston Southern University,” Musser said in a school statement. “I love the family atmosphere, the focus on faith, and truly believe in the vision and mission of the University. I look forward to being a part of the CSU family. I want to thank Athletic Director Jeff Barber and SWA Lisa Gilmore for this great opportunity.”
In 2012, part of a 3-year tenure on staff at New Mexico, Musser’s offense led the nation with 96 home runs as a unit. During her stint on staff at Kansas (2003-10), she served as both hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
An All-American as a player with the Jayhawks, Musser earned the honor in 2002 and was a four-time all-Big 12 selection during her career. As a senior, she hit .354 with nine home runs and thirty RBIs en route to all-region and all-conference honors.
Charleston Southern finished the 2020 season with a 10-9 record, with wins over Lehigh and Chattanooga. The Buccaneers offense batted .262 on the year, with seven home runs and a team slugging percentage of .366.
