Ashley Cook has been hired as the head coach at Coppin State, the school announced earlier in October.
Cook takes the reins as the eleventh coach in program history, replacing Gino Olivieri in the position. She assumes the helm of the Eagles’ program after most recently spending a single season as the head coach at Division III Juniata College.
While at Juniata, Cook shepherded a pair of players to all-conference honors and led the team’s offense to a home run total that doubled the previous year’s mark.
In addition to her time at Juniata, Cook was the head coach at Division III Pine Manor College, where she also served as an assistant athletic director; senior woman’s administrator; and sports information director. Her coaching resume also includes a five-year stint as head coach at Bowie State.
As a player during her two-year career on the field at Bowie State, Cook recorded a .400 career batting average, with eleven home runs and seventy-seven RBIs to her credit.
The 2019 season saw Coppin State post a 9-32 overall record, with a 5-10 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The team appeared in the conference tournament for the third consecutive season.
