Arkansas and head coach Courtney Deifel have agreed to a contract extension.
Deifel will enter her fourth season as the Razorbacks’ head coach in 2019 and will look to help her team build off of their first-ever Super Regional appearance during the 2018 season. The Hogs have climbed through the ranks of the SEC and on the national level during Deifel’s tenure.
During the 2018 season, Deifel helped the program to multiple firsts, including the Super Regional appearance and hosting the program’s first-ever regional at Bogle Park in Fayetteville. In 2017, the Hogs led Power 5 teams with a 17-win increase from the previous season.
The contract extension is a five-year pact, according to a university release, and includes a pair of one-year options that give the deal a maximum length of seven years. The new deal ties Deifel to the Hogs program through the 2023 season. Deifel was one of six Arkansas head coaches to receive new contracts, a group that also includes baseball coach Dave Van Horn.
A former assistant coach and staff member at Oklahoma, Maryland, and Louisville, Deifel spent a single season as the head coach at Maryland in 2015. She led the Terrapins to a .500 record (27-27) and to the Big Ten conference tournament before accepting the Arkansas head coaching position after that season.
The Hogs went 42-17 in 2018, including a 12-12 conference record.
