Two Division III teams are dealing with COVID-19 issues and their D3 tournament hopes are dashed, JWOS has learned.
An official release from Salisbury University Tuesday discussed issues at Ohio Northern; both teams were set to participate in the Marshall, Texas regional hosted by East Texas Baptist.
Instead, Ohio Northern has withdrawn from the D3 tournament due to COVID-19 protocol issues. The Polar Bears’ first-round matchup against Salisbury has been declared a no-contest and Salisbury will advance. Ohio Northern finished the season fourth in the OAC standings and 24-18-1 overall.
Up at the Decatur, Illinois regional, Geneva College is also out of the D3 tournament due to protocol issues. An official school release described their departure from the tournament as having been “removed from” the tournament by the NCAA. Geneva was set to play Calvin in their opening game; that matchup will also be declared no-contest and Calvin will move on in the tournament.
Geneva was 36-5 this season and won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs.
