Who is she? Elena Bowman, a former slugger and catcher for the Manhattan Lady Jaspers.
What is she known for? One of the greatest players to come through the Manhattan College program, Bowman was a four-time all-MAAC selection, including three times earning a nod to the conference first-team. She earned a trio of all-region honors, and in 2015 was the unanimous choice for MAAC Player of the Year. At her career’s end, Bowman held the program record for home runs with fifty-two, as well as games played (198), walks (134), and slugging percentage (.723). She also stands in the program’s top three all-time in RBIs, hits, doubles, and runs scored.
Here’s something interesting… Elena is not the only member of the Bowman family to have an outstanding athletic career; her brother, Alex, played rugby at Cal and won two Collegiate Rugby Championships (in 2013 & ’14) with the Golden Bears.
Quotable quote: “I think the biggest piece of advice that I would give [to a younger generation of players]is to take pride in everything that you do. I don’t mean that only in the way of how you perform; I mean that in the way of how you treat your teammates, and how you wear your uniform, and how you take the field… when you look back, those small moments are where you take a little bit of extra effort, and you remember that everything you do is a reflection of who you are. Not just in your happy moments, but in your sad moments, too.”
What’s she up to now? Bowman now works as the Director of Softball Operations for HitTrax, a position that she has held since October of 2018. She handles much of the softball-centric work for the company, including promoting and emceeing the company’s star-studded Home Run Derby that we profiled from the NFCA Convention in December, and represents the company at a number of events.
