The Florida Gulf Coast League is spreading their wings in just their second year of existence.
While the league prepares for their second summer season beginning in June, the organization will also field a team for the Valencia Cup, a tournament set to take place in Spain from May 8-15. The roster for international play consists entirely of professional and post-college players, and is headlined by six alumni from Florida State, including several members of the 2018 NCAA national champion Seminoles squad.
Meghan King and Jessie Warren headline the Seminoles contingent on the Team Florida roster, and are joined by former teammates Jessica Burroughs; Ellie Cooper; Carsyn Gordon; and Morgan Klavemann. Former Gold Glove winner AJ Andrews and ex-Team USA member Shelby Pendley are two of the well-known additional names on the roster.
Additional roster members include Arizona State and Athletes Unlimited breakout star Morgan Howe; Tennessee alum Aubrey Leach; Arizona alum Mandie Perez; Ohio State alum Lilli Piper; and Florida alumni Aleshia Ocasio and Jordan Roberts.
Gina Snyder, who, along with Cooper and Gordon, is a head coach in the FGCL summer league, rounds out the 15-player roster.
While playing internationally, Team Florida will face off against a variety of opponents, including the Mexican national team, as well as the Netherlands; Czech Republic; and Spain. The group will also take part in a youth softball clinic in Barcelona, Spain.
