Myakka City River Mocs dual-threat standout Mack Leonard has been named the JWOS Player of the Week for week three of the Florida Gulf Coast League summer season.
The Normal, Illinois native plays for the Illinois State Redbirds during the NCAA season.
Leonard, who hits in the leadoff spot for the River Mocs and also takes the circle as part of the team’s pitching staff, batted .538 on the week and recorded an undefeated record on the pitching rubber.
Through the first three games of her team’s weekly slate, Leonard recorded a hit in each game and scored a pair of runs. In Friday’s matchup against the Bradenton Lynx, Leonard recorded a perfect 4-4 showing from the leadoff spot, tallying four singles and scoring a run.
In two outings from the circle, Leonard posted a 2-0 record and a 1.93 ERA. Against Fastpitch U in her first appearance of the week, Leonard recorded a complete game win, allowing five hits and three earned runs while collecting five strikeouts. Against the Lynx, in the same game where she recorded a perfect showing at the plate, Leonard carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning of the game before finishing another complete game victory. She held the Lynx scoreless on two hits and seven strikeouts.
Set to play as a sophomore again in 2021 thanks to the NCAA’s extended eligibility waiver, Leonard owns a career .383 batting average during her two years at Illinois State. When the 2020 season abruptly ended, she owned a .443 batting average on the year and had hit six home runs – the first longballs of her collegiate career.
