Former Baylor assistant coach Mark Lumley has passed away after a battle with cancer.
Lumley died in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to a Facebook post from his wife. He was 65 years old.
The most recent battle with cancer was Lumley’s fourth. He initially had cancer in 2007, ultimately having his prostate removed at that time. He went through chemotherapy treatments in 2015 due to cancer in his lymph nodes, and later battled colorectal cancer in 2018. In March of this year, Lumley found out that cancer had spread to his vertebrae.
Lumley was a part of Glenn Moore’s coaching staff for twenty years at Baylor, helping lead the Bears to four trips to the Women’s College World Series and thirteen NCAA regionals. He spent two years as Moore’s assistant coach at LSU prior to following him to Baylor.
He is survived by a wife, Stacey, and three stepsons.
Throughout the day on Sunday, a number of coaches and other dignitaries shared personal tributes to Lumley.
RIP coach Lum, whether I was playing for you or coaching against you your kindness to me and my family will never be forgotten.
