Former Texas Tech pitcher Gigi Wall is transferring to North Texas, sources confirmed to JWOS on Thursday.

Wall spent just one season at Texas Tech, the shortened 2020 campaign, after four years at NAIA Oklahoma City University. Her tenure at OCU included a medical redshirt season, and she has a single season of eligibility remaining following the NCAA’s extended eligibility waiver due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Wall’s freshman season of 2016, she led Oklahoma Christian to the NAIA national championship, assembling a 28-1 overall record, a 0.47 ERA, and collecting 169 strikeouts during the year. She was named the NAIA World Series MVP and a First-Team All-American for her efforts.

In total during her three seasons on the field at OCU, Wall was a 3-time All-American; the 2017 conference Pitcher of the Year; and was again named the NAIA World Series MVP after leading the Stars to their second-consecutive national championship in 2017.

During her brief tenure at Texas Tech, Wall collected a 2-2 record in thirteen appearances, finishing the abbreviated campaign with 35 strikeouts; a 2.02 ERA; and an opponent’s batting average of .202.

North Texas, who shared the regular season Conference USA championship in 2019, finished the 2020 season with a 19-5 overall record, a mark that included victories over Louisiana-Lafayette and Oklahoma. The Mean Green pitching staff finished the year with a 2.31 ERA and .212 opponent’s batting average.
