Santa Clara has hired Gina Carbonatto as the program’s new head coach.
Carbonatto spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at UC Davis, helping the program to eighty-nine victories and playing a role in the program’s ascent from a sub-.500 record in 2017 to 39 wins on the 2019 season. During her tenure on the Aggies’ staff, the program saw eighteen all-Big West honorees.
Prior to her stint on staff at UC Davis, Carbonatto spent two years on the coaching staff at Pacific, her alma mater. Her resume also includes a three-year term at Washington, where she served as both a volunteer and full-time assistant, and two years as the volunteer assistant in her inaugural stint on staff at Pacific.
As a star player for the Tigers from 2004-07, Carbonatto was twice selected as an All-American and three times earned her squad’s team MVP award. She was named the Big West Player of the Year in 2006, also the year of her first all-American honor. Carbonatto earned all-conference first-team honors in each of her four seasons.
In the 2019 season, the Santa Clara Broncos finished the season 16-34 with an 8-7 mark in West Coast Conference play. The Broncos ended the year with a .269 team batting average and a 5.06 cumulative ERA from the squad’s pitching staff.
