Shanon Hays is the new head coach at Grand Canyon, the school announced on Friday.
Hays spent the last three years as the head coach at Division II Oklahoma Christian, where he led the program to a 99-30 record.
Prior to his tenure at Oklahoma Christian, Hays’ decorated resume includes a 2-year tenure as the head coach at Colorado Christian and five years as the head coach at Texas Tech. He began the softball program at Lubbock Christian and led the team to an NAIA National Championship in its inaugural season.
In a dozen seasons as a head coach, Hays boasts 468 career wins and a .721 winning percentage. He is the winningest coach in Texas Tech program history.
“What a great opportunity GCU has given me to come take over this program and take it to the next level,” Hays said in a school statement. “It’s amazing to see where GCU Athletics programs now are on the D-I landscape and how GCU has exploded. I feel very blessed that I’m coming on board during such an exciting time. I’m ready to get to work and excited about this program’s future.”
