Grand Canyon and head coach Ann Pierson have parted ways, the school announced on Friday.
Pierson is the only coach that the Lopes have ever known, beginning the program in 2004 and guiding the squad through the transition from Division II to Division I.
The Lopes collected a 509-419-3 overall record under Pierson’s shepherding; that mark includes ten years at the Division II level and the past eight years as a Division I program. During the 2021 season, the Lopes went 19-30, including an 8-9 showing in conference play.
Athletic director Jamie Boggs said in a school statement, “We would like to thank Coach Pierson for 18 years of service at GCU. We wish Ann and her family the best moving forward.”
Prior to taking the helm at Grand Canyon, Pierson spent seven years on staff at Arizona State, her alma mater, and was inducted into the Arizona Softball Hall of Fame in 2018.
