Pittsburgh head coach Holly Aprile will be named the next head coach at Louisville, sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed to JWOS.
Aprile had been the head coach at Pittsburgh since 2009 and was named the ACC’s Coach of the Year in 2018 after leading the Panthers to the Coastal Division championship and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament.
During her time at the helm of the Panthers’ program, Aprile shepherded the squad to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth in 2015 and oversaw the program’s transition from Big East competition into the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Panthers finished below .500 just twice in Aprile’s ten years of leadership and reached the 30-win plateau four times.
Prior to becoming head coach at Pittsburgh, Aprile was an assistant coach with the Panthers and also spent eight years on staff as an assistant coach at South Carolina.
At Louisville, Aprile will take the helm of a Cardinals program that posted a 33-20 overall record in the 2018 season, with a 10-12 mark in conference play. She takes the reins of the program from Sandy Pearsall, who retired in June after serving as the only head coach in Cardinals program history.
