Lipitz takes the helm of the Flames’ athletic department following an eight-year stint as deputy athletics director at North Carolina State. At NC State, Lipitz had oversight in a litany of categories for the athletic program, including personnel & legal matters, capital projects, facilities and operations, and special events, among other duties. He had direct supervision of several of the school’s athletic teams, including the football program.
While at NC State, Lipitz’s Wolfpack biography lists him as having “indirect” oversight over a number of the school’s athletic programs, including softball, though he was particularly instrumental in the hiring process that ultimately brought in Jennifer Patrick-Swift as the Wolfpack’s head softball coach in 2018.
Prior to joining the staff at North Carolina State, Lipitz spent eleven years on staff at Maryland, where his title was senior associate athletic director and he had oversight and direct supervision over several of that school’s athletic teams and departments.
At Illinois-Chicago, Lipitz inherits an athletic program that includes a softball team that is a perennial championship contender. The Flames have appeared in the NCAA tournament in two of the last three seasons, falling in the conference tournament championship in 2019 after earning the top seed in that tournament.
