Iowa State alum Brittany Gomez has been named the interim head coach at Division II Bemidji State for the 2020 season.
Gomez has been on staff at Bemidji State since last summer, and served unofficially as the interim head coach for the latter part of the 2019 season. With Wednesday’s announcement, she will don the interim head coach title “effective immediately,” according to a university release.
Gomez spent four years at Iowa State, graduating in 2016, where she earned all-Big 12 honors in each season of her career. She earned a nod to the all-conference first-team after batting .401 in her senior season, and ended her career with her name atop four Iowa State program records, including career hits and stolen bases. Her 297 career hits and 110 career stolen bases both also rank in the top 5 all-time in Big 12 conference history.
After her collegiate playing career, Gomez spent two seasons in the National Pro Fastpitch league and played for the USA Women’s Baseball national team for several years. Before joining the staff at Bemidji State, she spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Montana.
Bemidji State finished the 2019 season with a 24-30 overall record, including a 7-23 mark in conference play.
