Loren LaPorte and James Madison have agreed to a long-term contract extension, the school announced on Thursday morning.
The new deal is an 8-year pact that extends through the 2029 season.
“What Loren achieved this spring with her staff and our student-athletes was one of the greatest accomplishments in our department’s history,” JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne said in a statement. “Beyond the on-field success, our softball players are model citizens who care about being engaged in the world around them. There is endless opportunity for this program to build off the Women’s College World Series appearance, and we’re excited to have Loren at the helm to do that.”
The 2021 season marked LaPorte’s fourth as the Dukes’ head coach and saw her lead the program to their first-ever appearanced in the WCWS. The Dukes went 41-4 on the year en route to their best finish in program history.
During LaPorte’s tenure, the Dukes are 148-32 overall, with a 56-4 showing in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Dukes have reached the Super Regionals twice during her tenure, in both 2019 and 2021. LaPorte and her staff were named the 2021 Coaching Staff of the Year by the NFCA.
Earlier this summer, LaPorte was rumored to be seen as a top candidate by Georgia for their then-vacant head coaching position.
