Arizona State is set to name Jimmy Kolaitis as the Sun Devils’ new assistant coach, sources confirmed to JWOS on Wednesday.
Kolaitis spent the last two years as the head coach at UAB, collecting thirty-four wins during his tenure. He led the Blazers’ offense to a .290 batting average in his first season in Birmingham, a mark nearly 30 points higher than the previous season. The Blazers sported a 15-11 overall record when the 2020 season abruptly ended.
Prior to taking the helm at UAB, Kolaitis spent five years as the hitting coach at Oregon, and was part of the coaching staff that won four Pac-12 conference titles and made four trips to the Women’s College World Series. His coaching resume also includes multiple stints at the professional level, and a lengthy tenure on staff at South Alabama. He also spent several years as the Director of Operations for Troy’s baseball team.
In joining the Arizona State staff, Kolaitis fills the position vacated by longtime Trisha Ford assistant Carly Wynn. The Sun Devils boasted a 22-7 record at the end of the 2020 campaign, and a team stat line of .333/50/205. The Sun Devils most recently appeared in the Women’s College World Series in 2018.
