Bargfeldt resigned “to pursue other opportunities”, according to the press release.
Bargfeldt spent fourteen seasons at the helm of the Golden Hurricane program, leading his team to eleven NCAA tournament appearances during that time. During Bargfeldt’s tenure, his Tulsa squad won eight conference titles, while Bargfeldt owns the highest winning percentage in school history.
The Golden Hurricane posted a winning record in each of Bargfeldt’s years as head coach, as he finished his tenure with a 535-270-1 overall record. Bargfeldt’s team reached the 40-win plateau six times.
In 2019, Bargfeldt led the Golden Hurricane to a 37-20 overall record, with a 16-5 mark in American conference play. The squad earned the #2 seed in the conference tournament and were upset in the quarterfinal round of the rain-shortened tournament. The Golden Hurricane later earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and reached the Regional Final in the Stillwater regional.
Before taking the helm of the Tulsa program, Bargfeldt spent a single season as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech and spent more than two decades as a coach at the high school & middle school levels. A former men’s fastpitch player, Bargfeldt is a former Pan Am Games silver medalist and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 1977 MLB Draft.
