Maine has promoted Jordan Fitzpatrick to the program’s head coaching position.
Fitzpatrick, who has been on the Black Bears’ staff since 2015, will take the reins of the program from Mike Coutts, who departed for D2 Colorado School of Mines last week.
A former Black Bear player, Fitzpatrick appeared in 55 games during her playing career in Orono that stretched from 2007-10. She was the softball summer camp director in 2009 and 2010, and later went on to coach on staff at Bangor High School before joining the Maine staff.
“We are thrilled Coach Fitzpatrick will be taking the reins of the Black Bear Softball program,” Maine athletic director Ken Ralph said in a statement. “Jordan has taken on additional responsibilities with the program in the last two years as we anticipated this change was coming. She has worked well with Coach Coutts and I am confident she can lead our program in a positive direction. We have significant investments in softball coming to Maine and Coach Fitzpatrick is prepared to elevate the program to be the best in America East.”
The Black Bears finished the 2021 season with an 11-22 overall record and a 7-11 showing in America East conference play.
