TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Drexel has hired Katie Jansson as the Dragons’ new head coach, the program announced on Friday morning.
Jansson spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Iona, her alma mater. She led the Gaels to appearances in the conference tournament in both 2019 and 2021, and saw her team sweep the major conference awards this season, with the MAAC Player, Pitcher, and Rookie of the Year all coming from the Gaels’ roster.
“On behalf of the entire Drexel community, I would like to welcome Katie to University City,” Drexel athletic director Maisha Kelly said. “Katie had an immediate impact in her previous stops, prioritizing success of student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom. She will bring a competitive spirit, coupled with creating a culture that steers our women into achieving their goals as students and softball players. We are all looking forward to her arrival on campus.”
Prior to her tenure at Iona, Jansson was the head coach at Monroe College, an NJCAA Division I school. She spent the 2017 season as an assistant at Iona. During her playing career, she helped guide Iona to three MAAC championships and was a 2014 All-Tournament selection.
The Drexel Dragons finished the 2021 season with a 29-12 overall record, including a 13-5 conference showing.
