Central Arkansas has hired Kayla Lucas as their new volunteer assistant coach, sources confirmed to JWOS.
Lucas spent the last five seasons as the head coach at Division II Young Harris College, posting a career record of 173-78 during her tenure with the Mountain Lions. The program reached the NCAA tournament each year under her guidance, and played in the D2 National Championship in 2019. Lucas and her staff also earned Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors from the NFCA during that 2019 season. In November 2020, Lucas was surprisingly and suddenly let go from her position at Young Harris.
Prior to her successful tenure at Young Harris, Lucas’ resume includes a 4-year stint on staff at Georgia College, where she was named the Division II Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014. After beginning her playing career at Henderson State, Lucas later transferred to and graduated from Central Baptist College, where she helped lead the program to the NCCAA National Championship in 2010.
A native of Marion, Arkansas – roughly two and a half hours from Conway – Lucas joins a Central Arkansas program that posted an 18-9 overall record during the 2020 season.
