UAB has tabbed Kendall Veach as the program’s new volunteer assistant coach, it was announced earlier this week.
Veach spent four years on the Auburn softball roster, including as the starting catcher in the latter portion of her career. She was part of the 2016 Tigers squad that finished as national runners-up and won the SEC tournament championship.
During her playing career on the Plains, Veach collected 39 home runs and added 119 RBIs. She played all around the diamond, seeing time at first and third base, as well as behind the plate. An All-SEC Tournament honoree as a sophomore in 2017, Veach also earned all-conference and all-region honors as a senior. Her twenty home runs in 2019 is the second-highest single-season total in program history.
“I am so excited about Kendall Veach joining our staff,” UAB head coach Joe Guthrie said in a statement. “She knows the game and has a passion for teaching. She will particularly help our infielders and catchers this season. For us to bring in Scott (Woodard) along with his former star pupil Kendall, is a huge get for our program. We could not be happier to have her here with us.”
The Blazers finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 15-11 overall record, and had not yet begun conference play when the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the campaign. Guthrie was elevated to the head coaching role earlier this summer.
