UPDATE 06/28/19: Ole Miss officially announced Schuette’s hiring in a press release today.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Eastern Illinois head coach Kim Schuette will be named the new pitching coach at Ole Miss, sources have informed JWOS.
David Johnson of Rebels247 was the first to report the news of Schuette’s hiring.
Schuette had been the head coach at Eastern Illinois since the fall of 2016, her second stint leading the program. Including her first stint leading the program, a tenure that stretched from 2006-13, Schuette owns a career record of 312-271-1 and is the Panthers’ all-time winningest coach.
During her inaugural tenure at EIU, Schuette was twice named the conference’s Coach of the Year, in 2011 and 2013. After returning to lead the Panthers, she was also named the athletic department’s Senior Woman Administrator in 2018.
The Panthers posted a 16-39 overall record, with a 5-16 conference mark during the 2019 season.
In addition to her dual stints at EIU, Schuette spent three years as the head coach at Purdue from 2014-16, recording an 85-81-1 record at the helm of the Boilermakers. Her resume also includes a season as the head coach at Division II Quincy and time as an assistant coach at San Jose State.
At Ole Miss, Schuette replaces Ashley Chastain, who is now the head coach at Charlotte. The Rebels reached the Super Regional round in 2019 for the second time in the last three seasons. The team’s pitching staff finished the season with a 2.29 cumulative ERA, forty-one wins, and 360 strikeouts.
