Wood, who starred for the Cardinals from 2003-06, made her mark as the first-ever all-American in the softball program’s history. She helped lead her team to a trio of NCAA tournament appearances, including to the regional final in 2006. She also helped lead her squad to back-to-back regular-season conference championships in 2005 and ’06, albeit in two different conferences (Conference USA and Big East, respectively) following a realignment.
During her senior season in ’06, Wood led the program with a .382 batting average, nine home runs, and fifty-one RBI en route to earning a third-team all-American honor. She owns the program’s career record for grand slams, and ranks in the all-time top ten in the Cardinals’ record books in a number of offensive categories.
Upon her induction, Wood will become the third softball player in the Louisville athletics Hall of Fame. She joins Tara McClure Isable (class of ’01; inducted 2014) and Keola Calderon (class of ’03; inducted 2017).
Joining Wood in the induction Class of 2019 are Francisco Garcia (basketball); Angel McCoughtry (basketball); Eric Wood (football); Cindy LaCrosse (golf); and Wesley Korir (track & field/cross country). The group will be officially enshrined in a ceremony on October 25th, and will be recognized on the field at the Louisville/Virginia football game on October 26th.
Since 2015, Wood has served as the top assistant coach at Harvard.
