Ball State is set to hire Lacy Wood as the program’s new head coach, sources confirmed to JWOS on Monday.
Wood spent the last five seasons on staff at Harvard, including the last two years as the program’s associate head coach. She was part of the coaching staff that led the Crimson to back-to-back Ivy League titles in 2018 and ’19. The team made four consecutive appearances in the conference championship series during Wood’s tenure.
Prior to her tenure at Harvard, Wood spent three seasons on staff at Eastern Kentucky. Her coaching resume also includes a stint as volunteer assistant at Louisville, her alma mater, as well as time spent in the private school and private instruction arenas.
During her playing career, Wood was an All-American catcher at Louisville. She was twice named a team captain, and earned a trio of all-conference honors during her time with the Cardinals. Her All-American award came as a senior in 2006, and was the first softball All-American in program history. As a senior, she led the team with a .382 batting average and nine home runs.
At Ball State, Wood takes the reins of a program that finished the 2020 season with an 18-9 overall record. She replaces Megan Ciolli Bartlett as head coach; Bartlett joined the coaching staff at Texas earlier in the summer.
