TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Linda Garza has been hired as Nevada head coach, the school announced on Friday evening.
“I am thrilled to bring a coach of Linda Garza’s caliber to Wolf Pack Athletics,” Nevada athletics director Doug Knuth said in a school statement. “She is committed to lifelong learning and the value of education in an athletic environment. She is dedicated to helping her team grow and compete at the highest level. She will build a coaching staff second-to-none, and she will be another great teammate in a department full of great coaches. I am excited to work with Coach Garza and build our softball program to be one of the power programs in the Mountain West conference and a regular post-season participant.”
Garza spent the last five seasons as head coach at Fresno State, compiling a 146-77 record during her tenure.
A Nevada press release included the Bulldogs’ full win-loss total from the 2021 season as part of Garza’s career record, though she spent the latter portion of the year on administrative leave following an altercation with a player in early April. Though her absence was never publicly discussed by the university, Jodie Cox acted as interim head coach and ultimately led the Bulldogs to a Mountain West conference title and an NCAA tournament berth to close the 2021 season.
Prior to Fresno State, Garza spent four seasons as head coach at UC Riverside. Her resume also includes stints as an assistant at Cal Poly, Purdue, Tulsa, and Arkansas. She was head coach at Wright State from 2009-10.
