TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Fresno State and Linda Garza are parting ways, the school officially announced on Tuesday evening.
Garza spent five years as the Bulldogs’ head coach after being hired prior to the 2017 season. She collected 146 wins during her tenure with the program, officially lodging an overall record of 146-77.
During the 2021 season, Garza was placed on administrative leave and did not coach the team through the last several weeks of the season. Though her absence was never publicly discussed by the university, Jodie Cox acted as interim head coach and ultimately led the Bulldogs to a Mountain West conference title and an NCAA tournament berth.
“I would like to thank Coach Garza for her contributions to Fresno State and for her work to uphold our Bulldog tradition of championships,” Fresno State athletic director Terry Tumey said in a school statement. “She is a passionate coach who added another historic chapter to the legacy of our softball program and helped position us for success in the future. We wish her all the best.”
Garza’s original contract, signed in July 2016, is set to expire on June 30th. Fresno State’s release describes Garza’s departure by saying that she “will step down”.
