Who is she? Mackenzie Whyte, a former starting shortstop for the Boise State Broncos.
What is she known for? Whyte was the Broncos’ starting shortstop from 2011-2014, starting 182 games at the position during that span. She hit .298 in her career with fifteen home runs. Her finest season came during her senior year in 2014 when she led her team with a .363 batting average, hit five home runs, and stole eighteen bases. She was twice named an academic all-conference selection and was named an all-American scholar athlete in 2011.
Here’s something interesting… In 2014, Whyte participated in a Locks of Love charity event, when she and teammates cut their hair and donated it to be made into wigs for individuals who have lost their hair due to illness. Whyte, along with her teammates, donated a ponytail that was more than 10″ in length.
Quotable quote: “Stay humble. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best player on your team or the smartest person in your class; it’s important to treat everyone with respect and to continue to give 100% in whatever you do.”
What’s she up to now? After graduating from Boise State, Whyte was accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. She spent nearly 2.5 years in school at Ross before moving to finish her veterinary school education at Wisconsin, after which she will enter the veterinary trade.
