Former Central Washington star Mallory Holtman will be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame as a member of the induction class of 2018.
Holtman, who played for the Wildcats from 2004-08, is one of the most celebrated players in the program’s history. She holds the program record for triples in a single season and ranks second all-time in five different statistical categories, including home runs; doubles; triples; RBIs; and total bases.
During her career, Holtman earned first-team all-conference selections in each of her four years as a Wildcat and twice was named to the all-region roster.
Perhaps most famously, Holtman and teammate Liz Wallace won an ESPY award in 2008 for assisting an opposing player in ‘running’ the bases after she hit a home run. Western Oregon’s Sara Tucholsky suffered what would be a career-ending knee injury after hitting the home run, which was the first of her career. After learning that Tucholsky’s teammates could not assist her, Holtman and Wallace carried Tucholsky around the bases to allow her to officially record the home run. Images from the game continue to show up on social media on occasion, and the trio earned the Best Moment in Sports award at the ESPY awards later that year.
After her playing career, Holtman began a coaching career at Central Washington and was eventually elevated to head coach, a position that she held for five seasons.
Joining Holtman in induction to the school’s Hall of Fame in the class of 2018 are Caroline Kruckeberg (track and field); Jamie Nilsen (baseball); Dave Oliver (basketball); and Jon Torrence (track and field). The quintet will be inducted in a ceremony on May 19th.
