Paige Knussman has been named the head coach at Division III Marymount University, the school announced on Friday.
Knussman is the first head coach in Saints program history, and she will be tasked with laying the foundation for the program that is set to begin competition in the 2022 season.
Most recently, Knussman spent a single year as the top assistant at fellow Division III school William Peace. While at WPU, she was the team’s head development coach; led the team’s recruiting efforts; and worked with the team’s offense.
Prior to joining the staff at WPU, Knussman spent a tenure on staff at Salisbury University, her alma mater. She served in both graduate assistant and assistant coaching capacities during her time on staff at Salisbury, and helped guide the Sea Gulls to 75 wins during her tenure.
As a player, Knussman was a two-time First-Team All-American. She stands second in Salisbury program history with 192 career RBIs, and also ranks in the program’s career top ten in both home runs and hits. She posted a career .448 batting average, and led the Gulls to three consecutive College World Series appearances from 2013-15. She was the Regional Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player during the Gulls’ 2015 postseason run.
In October of 2020, Marymount announced plans to add softball as the school’s 20th varsity sport. The team will compete in the Atlantic East conference, and as the seventh league team will give the conference an automatic qualifier into the NCAA tournament.
