TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
McNeese and head coach James Landreneau have agreed to a contract extension, the school announced on Thursday.
The three-year extension also includes an option for a fourth year, according to a school press release.
Having just completed his fifth season as the Cowgirls’ head coach, Landreneau led the program to the NCAA tournament this year for the third time during his tenure. The Cowgirls won the Southland Tournament title, running the table in the tournament after entering as the conference 3-seed.
In addition to the three NCAA tournament appearances, Landreneau led the Cowgirls to an appearance in the National Invitational Softball Championship tournament.
“James and I met as soon as he returned to town (following the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional) and we had some great dialogue and discussions,” McNeese athletic director Heath Schroyer said in a statement. “I know how the business of college athletics work and the opportunities he could have moving forward. Keeping James here was my No. 1 priority. I’m extremely excited to have Coach Landreneau here for the foreseeable future.”
Landreneau owns a 171-104 overall record since taking the helm of the Cowgirls’ program; he previously served as an assistant coach with the program.
