Megan Bartlett will be named the new assistant coach at Texas, sources confirmed to JWOS.
Bartlett will join the Longhorns program after spending the last five seasons as the head coach at Ball State. From 2017-19, she led the team past the 30-win plateau in three consecutive seasons, and the Cardinals earned the MAC West Division title in 2018. During her tenure in Muncie, four Ball State players earned all-Region honors, including Stacy Payton during the 2019 season. At the end of the abbreviated 2020 season, the Cardinals were 18-9 on the year.
Prior to her tenure at Ball State, Bartlett spent a single season on staff at Purdue. Her coaching resume also includes time on staff at Northern Illinois; DePaul; and Loyola Chicago. In addition to her coaching resume, Bartlett owns a juris doctorate degree from Northern Illinois.
During her playing career at Notre Dame, Bartlett was named the 2004 Big East Player of the Year and finished her career as the Fighting Irish’s career leader in both hits and stolen bases. She ranked in the top ten in program history in an additional seven statistical categories. Following her collegiate career, Bartlett played two years of professional softball, helping lead the Chicago Bandits to regular-season championships in both years.
At Texas, she will fill the role vacated by the departure of Chelsea Spencer. The Longhorns finished the 2020 season with a 24-3 overall record, and were seen as odds-on favorites to reach the Women’s College World Series when the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the season.
