TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Mississippi Valley State head coach Lee Smith has retired, the school announced last week.
Smith was one of the most successful head coaches in the SWAC; during his nineteen seasons leading the Devilettes’ program, the squad reached the NCAA tournament eight times and won games during the 2004 and 2009 Regional rounds.
The second head coach in MVSU program history, Smith notched a 414-533 overall record during his tenure. His win total includes the most victories of any MVSU coach in any sport. He led the Devilettes to eight SWAC championships, nine SWAC Eastern Division titles, and was named league Coach of the Year nine different times.
Already in a hybrid coaching and administrative role, Smith will remain at MVSU in his administrative capacity as associate athletic director. “Having the opportunity to move into athletic administration full-time here at the university will allow me to continue to support MVSU athletics and give back to a university that has given me so much,” Smith said in a school press release.
During the 2021 season, Mississippi Valley State posted a 4-21 overall record with a 3-12 mark in conference play.
