A Nebraska playing great, Knighten spent the 2019 season as a graduate assistant on staff at Wichita State, where she was pursuing a master’s degree in sports management, according to her biography on the school’s website.
During her playing career at Nebraska, Knighten became the first four-time all-Big Ten selection in Huskers program history. She was the squad’s everyday third baseman during her career, starting all but one of the team’s 229 games throughout her four years in Lincoln.
Twice a first-team all-conference selection, Knighten earned a pair of first-team all-region nods and was named a first-team all-American in 2016. She later played professionally for the Scrap Yard organization.
At San Diego, Knighten joins the coaching staff under first-year head coach Jessica Pistole. The Toreros finished the 2019 season with a 20-29 overall record, including a 4-11 mark in conference play. The squad posted a team batting average of .267, with fifteen home runs and a .360 team slugging percentage.
