Morehead State has hired former Miami (Ohio) assistant Samantha Jones as the Eagles’ new head coach.
Jones spent three seasons as an assistant with the Miami Redhawks, assisting Chris Kuhlmeyer with the team’s offense and working with the program’s outfielding corps. While at Miami, Jones was part of a record-breaking 2017 campaign that saw the squad set second-best all-time marks in runs scored, runs per game, home runs, and RBIs, among other records.
Prior to her tenure on the staff at Miami, Jones spent four seasons as the head coach at Asbury University, an NAIA school in Kentucky. She led the Asbury Eagles to a 70-100 record during her tenure at the school.
A Kentucky Wildcats alum, Jones, then known as Samantha DeMartine, appeared in more than 200 games during her career with the Cats. She clubbed twenty home runs and collected 90 RBIs during her four years as a Wildcat, earning academic all-conference honors in 2010.
She takes the helm of a Morehead State program that posted a 28-23 record in 2018, including an 8-14 conference mark. It marked the second straight season of a win-loss record over .500 for the squad.
