UPDATE 06/18/19: Wichita State officially announced Lashley’s hiring in a press release on Monday.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Wichita State is hiring Morgan Lashley as the program’s new pitching coach. Lashley confirmed the move on her personal social media, though the school has not announced the hiring.
In a message posted alongside a photo of herself and her dog on social media, Lashley said, “We’re headed to Wichita, KS! Super excited to announce I’ve accepted an assistant coach position at Wichita State University. Fen and I are looking forward to our new adventure In Shocker Nation #GoShockers”
Lashley spent the last two years as a graduate manager on staff at Alabama, serving as part of the program’s support staff, including on the 2019 SEC regular-season champion Crimson Tide squad. The Wichita State position will be Lashley’s first career full-time coaching role.
As a player, Lashley began her career at Army West Point, amassing a 62-30 overall record in a pair of seasons for the Black Knights. She collected a 2.33 ERA during her tenure at West Point and was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year in her freshman season in 2012. She ended her career with the Black Knights as the program’s all-time wins leader and earned second-team all-region honors.
Following a transfer to Hofstra, Lashley finished her career with the Pride, earning another second-team all-region award in her junior year, her inaugural season at Hofstra, along with second-team all-Colonial Athletic Association honors. Her senior year in 2015 was arguably her finest season, as she posted a 1.93 ERA and 173 strikeouts in 166.2 innings of work. Lashley posted a 19-3 overall record and held opponents to a .228 batting average that year.
At Wichita State, Lashley will join a Shockers program that posted a 32-24 overall record during the 2019 season, with a 12-9 mark in conference play. The team’s pitching staff finished the season with a 3.31 team ERA and 225 strikeouts in 371.2 innings on the year.
