Rhode Island has elected not to renew the contract of head coach Bridget Hurlman, the school announced.
Hurlman spent six seasons as the Rams’ head coach, collecting a 61-167 overall record during her tenure. The Rams also posted a 22-76 record in conference play under her guidance, including an 8-15 mark during their finest league showing in 2017.
In a statement, Rhode Island athletic director Thorr Bjorn said, “”I am thankful for Bridget’s contributions to the softball program, and I wish her all the best moving forward. I am appreciative of the positive impacts Bridget had. These decisions are never easy, but it is appropriate to make a change at this time.”
During the 2021 season, the Rams played just 27 games and saw more than half their schedule depleted due to cancellations. 28 scheduled games were ultimately cancelled due to weather or COVID-related issues.
Prior to taking the helm at Rhode Island, Hurlman spent six seasons on staff at Manhattan College where she coached the team’s hitters. Her coaching resume also includes a stint at SUNY Purchase.
