Texas State head coach Ricci Woodard recorded her 700th career win in her Bobcats’ victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night.
Here are Five Fast Facts about the longtime Bobcats leader as she celebrates her milestone win.
1. She has spent more than two decades at Texas State.
Woodard is in her twenty-first season as the Bobcats’ leader. She took the helm of the program ahead of the 2001 season.
2. Under Woodard, Texas State has won championships in two different conferences.
Prior to joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013, Texas State competed in the Southland Conference for twenty-five years. Woodard’s softball team won five Southland regular-season titles and four tournament crowns, and led the Bobcats to the Sun Belt regular-season and conference titles in 2018.
3. Texas State has recorded eighty-two All-Conference selections under Woodard.
In addition to the lengthy tenure in the Southland and current tenure in the Sun Belt, Texas State also spent one year as a member of the WAC. Across her program’s membership in three leagues, Woodard has shepherded players to nearly seven dozen All-Conference awards and honors.
4. Before beginning her college coaching career, Woodard was a successful high school coach.
Sometimes success translates across different levels of the game and sometimes it does not; in Woodard’s case, it has. Prior to beginning a career in college coaching, Woodard started a high school softball program in Freeport, Texas, and later won a district title while coaching at another high school in Midland, Texas.
5. She set the program’s all-time wins record… in 2004.
The 4th coach in program history when she was hired, Woodard set the program’s new all-time wins record in just her fourth season at the helm. Her 172nd win at Texas State officially marked the record, and she has added to that number ever since.
