Jexx Varner has been named the permanent head coach at Robert Morris, a school spokesperson confirmed to JWOS on Monday.
Varner spent the 2019 season as the program’s interim head coach, a title he assumed following the retirement of Dr. Craig Coleman in the fall. Varner led the Colonials to a 14-37 overall record during his time as the interim coach.
A 2007 graduate of Robert Morris, Varner spent two seasons as a Colonials assistant coach following his graduation. He later went on to stints as an assistant coach at Kent State and Division II Ashland before being hired as head coach at Lafayette College. Varner spent four seasons leading that program, from 2014-17.
In addition to the 14-37 overall mark, the Robert Morris squad finished the ’19 season with a 5-9 conference record. The Colonials hit .240 as a team on the year, while the pitching staff posted a 5.01 cumulative ERA.
