Perez previously was on a single-season contract through the year 2020; the five-year extension will run through the 2024 campaign.
The 2019 season marked Perez’ sixth as head coach of the Hornets program, a tenure that includes 164 career victories and a conference championship & NCAA tournament berth in 2018. Her team reached the 30-win plateau in back-to-back years in 2018 and ‘19.
A Sacramento State ‘lifer,’ Perez played for the Hornets from 1999-2002 and spent nine years on the program’s coaching staff as an assistant before ascending to the head coaching position.
“Lori is a true Hornet from her time at Sacramento State as a student-athlete to assistant coach and eventually head coach,” said athletic director Mark Orr in a school press release. “She represents everything we look for in our coaches – she is committed to the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes, and is a tremendous recruiter and on-field coach. I have the utmost confidence in Lori, and look forward to working with her for many years to come.”
The Hornets ended the 2019 season with a 31-25 overall record, including a 9-8 mark in Big Sky play. The squad finished the season a victory shy of the conference tournament championship game. The Hornets batted .283 as a team, while the pitching staff recorded a cumulative 2.88 staff ERA.
