Dartmouth head coach Shannon Doepking will be named the new head coach at Syracuse, sources have confirmed to Justin’s World of Softball.
Doepking spent four years as the head coach at Dartmouth, leading the program to a conference title and NCAA tournament appearance in 2015 and a pair of appearances in the conference championship series. The Big Green posted an 85-79-1 overall record during Doepking’s tenure and reached the Ivy League best-of-three championship series in the 2018 season, in addition to the 2015 campaign.
Prior to joining the Big Green, Doepking spent a single season as the head coach at Division III Amherst College. Her coaching resume also includes stints as an assistant coach at Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson. She was a part of the 2013 Stony Brook squad that reached the NCAA tournament from the #4 seed position in the conference tournament.
A Tennessee Lady Vols alum, Doepking played in a trio of Women’s College World Series’, catching program legend Monica Abbott for much of her career. She twice earned all-conference honors, a member of the SEC’s all-freshman team in 2005 and a first-team all-conference nominee as a junior in 2007. She went on to play five seasons in the National Pro Fastpitch league.
She takes over a Syracuse program that posted a 30-20 overall record, with a 9-12 mark in conference play, in 2018. The Orange were eliminated in the first round of the conference tournament, but return a host of talent, including pitchers Alexa Romero and Sophie Dandola, the latter a first-year transfer. Breakout outfielder Bryce Holmgren also returns for her senior season in 2019.
The news of Dopeking’s hiring was first reported by campus publication the NewsHouse in Syracuse.
