Sharonda McDonald has been named the new head coach at Campbell, the school announced on Tuesday.
McDonald spent the 2018 season on the staff at Ohio State, where she helped lead the Buckeyes to a fourth-place finish in the Big Ten and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
Prior to her brief tenure at Ohio State, McDonald had been an assistant at Florida, LSU, Texas Tech, Ohio, and Texas Southern. She was a part of the 2017 Florida Gators squad that played for the national championship. Her resume also includes a single-season stint as head coach of the NPF’s Chicago Bandits.
A former Texas A&M Aggie, McDonald set an NCAA record – one that still stands today – with seventy-three consecutive stolen bases during her time at Texas A&M. She helped lead the Aggies to the Women’s College World Series in 2007 and ended her collegiate career with a .338 batting average.
She takes over a Campbell program that posted a 29-27 record in the 2018 season, including a 12-9 mark in Big South conference play. The Fighting Camels earned a berth in the inaugural NISC tournament in 2017, but failed to make it past the conference postseason in 2018.
McDonald takes over for Todd Bradley, whose departure we brought to you in a JWOS exclusive.
