South Carolina outfielder Haley Simpson will miss the 2021 season due to injury, the school announced on Monday.
Simpson, a 3rd-year junior, is set to have surgery for a hip injury later this year that will put her out of commission for the full spring season.
During the shortened 2020 season, Simpson led the Gamecocks with a .353 batting average and recorded five extra base hits, four RBI, and eleven runs scored during the abbreviated campaign. She additionally posted a .529 slugging percentage with a .414 on-base percentage.
For her career, Simpson owns a .301 batting average with 21 runs scored, thirteen RBIs, and eleven stolen bases in two years as a Gamecock. She also owns a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, with 72 putouts and one assist to go along with zero fielding errors.
In addition to Simpson’s injury, senior utility player Alex Fulmer will miss a “significant portion” of the 2021 season as she recovers from shoulder surgery.
