What is she known for? LeMay suited up for the Gophers from 2014-16, establishing herself as an offensive threat and one of the nation’s top backstops. After transferring from a Division II school after her freshman year, LeMay became the Gophers’ starting catcher. She started behind the plate in all but one of her 171 games during her career. She earned a pair of all-region honors, in her junior and senior seasons, as well as a nomination to the all-Big Ten second-team in ’16.
Here’s something interesting… During her three years with the Gophers, LeMay became one of the best defensive catchers in all of Division I. She committed just thirteen errors in the field, while recording more than 1,300 putouts and finishing her career with a .991 fielding percentage.
Quotable quote: “My favorite memory from my playing career is not just a single moment, but a collection of moments over a 2-3 week span. I always place these moments together because one could not have happened without the other, and all were emotionally-charged events that fully consumed myself and my team. Winning the 2014 Big Ten Tournament against an incredibly talented Michigan team was such an amazing feeling. Later that next day, we found out we were hosting a Regional, which was AMAZING. Looking up into the stands and seeing such a huge home crowd, probably Minnesota’s largest at that time, is a sight I will never forget. We played Auburn for the championship (they beat us earlier that day to force a double header), and it was emotional, draining, and took every single person to win the Regional and head to Supers. We went to Oregon and unfortunately did not come out on top that series, but the experience was something I will forever cherish.”
What’s she up to now? After graduation, LeMay spent a single season as the volunteer assistant with the Gophers. She currently works as an elementary physical education and DAPE (developmental adaptive physical education) teacher in the Minneapolis area. In addition to her teaching position, LeMay also works part-time as a ramp agent at MSP International Airport. She says, “I am one of those people with the orange glow sticks that dance in all those videos that go around on Facebook!”
