UPDATE 12/11/19 – UTEP officially announced Hubbard’s hiring in a press release on Wednesday evening.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Utah Valley head coach TJ Hubbard will be named the new head coach at UTEP, sources confirmed to JWOS on Wednesday.
Hubbard spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Utah Valley, collecting a 52-86 overall record, including a 24-23 conference record. The Wolverines went 10-4 in WAC play during the 2018 season, a season that culminated in a second-place finish in the conference standings, the best result in program history.
During that same 2018 campaign, Hubbard was named the WAC Coach of the Year and shepherded back-to-back WAC Pitchers of the Year in 2017 and ’18. The Wolverines participated in the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) postseason tournament, before exiting in the regional round of play.
Prior to his tenure at Utah Valley, Hubbard spent a single season as an assistant coach at Kansas. His resume also includes a six-year stint as head coach at North Texas, and stops as an assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette, North Texas, and Seminole State College.
At UTEP, Hubbard takes the reins of a Miners squad that finished the 2019 season with a 17-33 record and a 10-14 mark in Conference USA play.
