A car accident on Sunday in South Carolina tragically affected members of the softball community.
Chad and Andrea Freeman, the parents of College of Charleston freshman pitcher Katie Freeman, were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in Summerville, South Carolina on Sunday. Chad’s mother, Meredith Freeman, also passed away in the accident. The trio were all traveling together and were involved in a two-car collision, according to local media reports.
Meredith Freeman was 74, Chad Freeman was 49, and Andrea Freeman was 48. The Freemans leave behind three daughters.
In a tweet on Tuesday, College of Charleston head coach Linda Kalafatis said, “We are sad to share the sudden & tragic loss of these family members. Please keep Katie & the team in your heart. A crowd funding link will be available soon to support Katie & her sisters. Our hearts are truly broken.”
That crowd-funding link mentioned in Kalafatis’ tweet was established online shortly thereafter, with an initial goal of $20,000. In two days’ time, the fundraiser had brought in more than $64,000 from more than 1,100 donors as of Thursday morning.
